Ancient Vishnu idol found in Russian town
Times of India – PTI – Jan 4, 2007
MOSCOW: An ancient Vishnu idol has been found during excavation in an old village in Russia’s Volga region, raising questions about the prevalent view on the origin of ancient Russia.
The idol found in Staraya (old) Maina village dates back to VII-X century AD. Staraya Maina village in Ulyanovsk region was a highly populated city 1700 years ago, much older than Kiev, so far believed to be the mother of all Russian cities. Go to story
This is old news, you may wonder, but it has recently been revived and reposted over at Globalhinduism.com, as part of an article by Parveen Arya. He suggests that this particular archeological find reveals that ancient Russia was under Vedic influence, and he points to verse in the Rig Veda that hints of Russia.
The report says that the area in which the idol was found is called Staraya Maina. In the Rig Veda, there is a passage that goes, Itham ascati pasyat syantham, ekam starayath mainaa-kaalam. This translates into Staraya Maina is the name of the land of the 45 rivers (on whose banks the noble Rishis conducted the famous Horse Sacrifices), where the sun god descends into one fifty two forty seven. While the first line identifies a location, the second line talks about the exact latitude and longitude at which the solar spectrum produces interference lines at one, fifty two, and forty seven.
The extreme precision of the calculations show the advanced science of the Vedic period, and also a thorough knowledge of SI units (it has been conclusively proven that French scientists stole the system from the Indians. The discovery of the idol confirms the location in Russia, identified in the Rig Veda as rus soviath sapthamahanagaratham (the ancient and holy land of the 722 flying vehicles). The ancient connections between the Russians and the Indians has been unequivocally confirmed. In Russian orthodox Christianity, worship is conducted very much like in Vishnu temples. The Russians refer to the feast of Vizhnyir Ekoratsya Vikhunh, directly corresponding with Vaikhunda Ekhadasi.
The Russian language also owes a lot to Sanskrit, whose origins 50,000 years ago roughly correspond with the language of the people of the Smritzyi archaeological site, along the banks of the now-dried up Vernstokhlin (Varnasatyakhalini) river system.
The same author, Parveen Arya, has also written an article entitled Taj Mahal was Hindu Temple “Tejo Mahalay” not built by any Muslim : 108 Proofs, crediting the research of P.N. Oak that uncovered the real story behind the Taj Mahal.
Some readers may be familiar with the controversial work of the Indian history buff P.N. Oak (See “Cities and Regions Since” and other publications by P.N. Oak.) He has pushed the idea that the glorious Vedic (Aryan) civilization was at one time spread all over the world, and not, as the historians would have us believe, introduced to India from Greece or the Caucus regions. In other words, Vedic civilization preceded the Greek and even the Egyptian and Babylonian epochs. More than that, he has called for investigation of the Vedic literatures as historical and scientific accounts, rather than myths. Conventional historians do not admit P.N. Oak to their club. They dismiss and denounce him as a bigoted and racist speculator who has concocted ridiculous theories from thin air. Unfortunately, some of his assertions are gobsmackingly laughable, but then there are some facts and evidences that he has laid out in support of his hypotheses, and these are not so easily dismissed. Indeed, they pretty much expose that much of the history that has been repeated by western historians and Indian historians is fabrication, used for propaganda to bolster the colonialization of India and subjugation of the Indian people to western economic stranglehold. Of course, the westerners picked up from where the Moguls left off, for they too had their own version of the way things were. India had for so long been under the rule of the Moguls and then the British, that their own glorious past had been relegated to legend or myth, and they were indoctrinated to accept that they must embrace modernity, industrialization, and the superiority of the new overlords.
There is much evidence—archeological and linguistic—to support the notion that the ancient Vedic civilization was spread far beyond India, and that it was much earlier than the civilizations we have been taught to believe were the first. But the best evidence is the Vedic literatures, and these have been illuminated by the foremost proponent of Sanatan Dharma, the late His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, whose Bhagavad-gita As It Is has been translated into 80 languages and sold in the hundreds of millions of copies worldwide, and whose Srimad-Bhagavatam (Bhagavat Purana) and Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita received much acclaim from scholars. It is Srila Prabhupada who for the first time introduced the world to these great literatures in English language without compromising the integrity of the text and purport (unlike Max Müller, whose mission it was to deliberately disparage and discredit the Vedic literatures), and in a language and style easily accessible by the layperson. The Bhaktivedanta Book Trust has published these great works in the world’s major languages, and they are available for purchase in hard copy. They are also available in Folio Infobase version, as a complete library with search function, for the Amazon Kindle and for devices like the iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab. The complete library of Prabhupada’s books, lectures, conversations, letters and essays is also online at prabhupadabooks.com, where anyone can access it for free.
