At the Front Line Sankirtan Story

Priyavrata das (ACBSP)

Sponge Bob Square Pants boxer shortsKrishna is in the heart of everyone and uses certain fortunate individuals to assist the devotees in Prabhupada's mission. This is one of those many, many occasions.

I was out on sankirtan many moons ago with a very old and dear friend of mine who is no longer with us, named Amburisa das, an old cowherd boy from New Vrindaban. (His service was caring for Krishna's cows on the farm.) In any event, he, myself and another good friend name Paravat Muni were traveling cross-country late one evening when we stopped to refuel, use the facilities and continue on. I had just finished my driving shift, so I stopped to refuel, clean up a little, wind down and attempt to sleep while Paravat Muni began his shift. We did so.

Paravat got behind the wheel, and I rode shotgun. As we continued on the interstate, probably 5 to 10 miles past the gas station we just left, Paravat and I noticed lights flashing in the rear view mirrors of the van. However, they were not the lights of a police car. It was actually some car behind us, flashing his high beams on and off, again and again. At first we ignored it, but then the car pulled into the fast lane right alongside us, doing about 70mph. As we both looked over—because the driver was beeping—we saw the passenger was waving at us. In total shock, both Paravat and I saw Amburisa in that car, waving at us to pull over. We obviously hadn't realized that Amburisa did not re-enter the van and had continued on without him. As we pulled over, they pulled ahead of us and did the same. Paravat and I were hysterically laughing at the mishap. The next thing we saw was Amburisa Prabhu running toward the van wearing nothing but funny-looking boxer shorts. By this time Paravat and I were on the floor almost dying in laughter. We wondered for a split second how could it be that a total stranger at about 3:00 am, at a last-chance gas station, on a lonely interstate would pick up a strange man wearing nothing but funny-looking boxer shorts and continue on the interstate beyond the speed limit to follow a van that this strange man claims his friends are in.

In any event, we laughed it off, and understood what had really just taken place. Krishna had used this fortunate soul to reunite us with Amburisa Prabhu so that we might continue on assisting Prabhupada in his mission together.

Your humble servant,
Priya
