Absolute Power over the Internet

Everything's under control

New Bill Gives Obama ‘Kill Switch’ To Shut Down The Internet

The federal government would have “absolute power” to shut down the Internet under the terms of a new US Senate bill being pushed by Joe Lieberman, legislation which would hand President Obama a figurative “kill switch” to seize control of the world wide web in response to a Homeland Security directive.

Lieberman has been pushing for government regulation of the Internet for years under the guise of cybersecurity, but this new bill goes even further in handing emergency powers over to the feds which could be used to silence free speech under the pretext of a national emergency.

By the laws of nature he is bound up very tight, hands and legs, and he is thinking he is free to think, free to see, free to... That is the defect. He is not at all free, completely under the clutches of material laws, and he is thinking that he is free. That is the defect. And when this sense comes, that "I am not free; everything is forced upon me," then he becomes human being. Otherwise he's a dog. Just like, you see. A dog thinks he is free. He is jumping here, there. He is thinking, "I am independent," barking, attacking somebody. Oh, he is thinking he is free to do everything. When one comes to this sense, that he is not free, that is beginning of human life. Athato brahma jijñasa. Then the question will be that "Why I am not free? What is the reason?" Then that is... Real human life begins. Otherwise he's a dog. more

You cannot avoid Krishna just as you cannot avoid government control

excerpt from lecture on Bhagavad-gita 4.11, Vrindaban, August 3, 1974

Ye yatha mam prapadyante tams tathaiva bhajamy aham [Bg. 4.11: "All of them – as they surrender unto Me – I reward accordingly. Everyone follows My path in all respects, O son of Pritha."]. Here it is said, "People who are attached to the bodily conception of life are so absorbed in materialism that it is almost impossible for them to understand that there is a transcendental body which is imperishable, full of knowledge and eternally blissful." So we have now surrendered to the bodily concept of life. We have to understand, therefore, what is our spiritual life. The Bhagavad-gita teaches in the beginning that "You, you have surrendered to the bodily concept, but it is wrong. You'll never be happy. You try to understand your spiritual identification." And surrender to the spiritual energy. That is required. Sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam sharanam vraja [Bg. 18.66]. Otherwise, you cannot avoid Krishna. Just like you cannot avoid government control. That is not possible. Either you are in jail life or you are in free life, you are always under government control. Similarly, either we remain in the material world or we remain in the spiritual world, we are controlled by Krishna. There is no escape. You cannot do that. But if you remain controlled by the spiritual energy, by directly being controlled by Krishna, not by His energy, or by His internal energy, then you will be happy. That is the ambition of persons who are in Krishna consciousness.
