Atomic Age: Lies, Coverups and Broken Promises

Japan admits daily radioactive release from Fukushima many times higher than previously announced — Nuclear commission blames calculation error

The Nuclear Safety Commission under the Prime Minister’s Office disclosed on April 23 that the amount of radioactive materials being released from the TEPCO Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant was 154 terabecquerels per day (1 tera is 1 trillion) as late as April 5 when the amount being released was considered stabilized.

On April 5, the estimated amount of radioactive materials released from Fukushima I Nuke Plant was 0.69 terabecquerels/hour for iodine-131 and 0.14 terabecquerels/hour for cesium-137. When the numbers were recalculated according to the INES method (converting cesium amount into iodine equivalent), the amount released turned out to be 6.4 terabecquerels/hour (which was 154 terabecquerels per day. Previously, the Nuclear Safety Commission had simply added the numbers for iodine-131 and cesium-137, and announced it was less than 1 terrabecquerel per hour [CORRECTED].

Hi-res photographic proof reactor core exploded at unit 3

I was struck by the location of the spent fuel pool on the third floor. (The spent fuel pool in the diagram is in the upper right corner of the building to the right of the top of the reactor, below the yellow beam, which is below the large orange girders. Part of the pool is cut away in the diagram, it appears to extend most of the way across about half of the building on the third floor) I went back to the site with the aerial photos and confirmed that the third floor was pretty much entirely obliterated in the explosion. The spent fuel pool is gone... see for yourself.

Today I had another look at the diagram, and noticed something else quite significant that I had missed before. I realized that the top of the primary containment vessel was flush with the floor level of the 4th floor, and that the top of the reactor itself was in the space between the 3rd and 4th floors, partially surrounded by the spent fuel pool.

Look at those photos again, particularly the 5th shot. At the top of the photo you see the skeletal remnants of the wall of the 3rd and 4th floors. It is easy to see the floor level of the third floor - there are two massive steam pipes running behind and below the building...the lower edge of the lower pipe is almost perfectly aligned with the floor level of the 3rd floor. Follow the floor line of the third floor down down from that back wall along the right side of the building, then across the front side of the building near the bottom of the photo. That shows you the floor level of the 3rd floor very clearly, right? There is nothing but air remaining above that level, except for a bit of roof debris which you can see through. The top of the primary containment vessel, as well as the top of the reactor itself, is simply GONE.

Even to a layperson, it is obvious that this means that the huge hydrogen explosion at unit 3 must have occurred in the reactor itself, and that the entire top of the reactor containment vessel was obliterated, ejecting the contents of the core - as well as the spent fuel pool- into the atmosphere. This means, obviously, that significant quantities of plutonium were released, and that the release of radiation from unit 3 alone must be many times higher than has been admitted for the entire complex - Chernobyl pales in comparison.

It is apparent that Tepco, the NRC, and the Japanese and American government officials, among others, are participating in a coverup of the extent and severity of this disaster. This almost certainly applies to the blandly misleading assurances about the harmlessness of the fallout on US soil. The whistle must be blown, loud and clear.

Professor Christopher Busby: Hydrogen Explosion Was Actually Nuclear Reaction, “People Who Ignore History Are Doomed To Repeat It”

“If what Takeshi Tokuda, Member of the Lower House (House of Representatives) in the Japanese Diet, says is true, the explosion that blew up the Reactor 1 building roof and side walls may not have been an hydrogen explosion as the government has insisted, but something decidedly more serious,” wrote Higgins, quoting a Japanese Blog.

Interestingly, the Japanese politician was speaking about the explosion at reactor 1 while Busby spoke of the one at reactor 3 but also hinted about other possible nuclear explosions.

“This is particularly bad news because we have already confirmed that plutonium and strontium from the nuclear plant have been raining on the US west coast since March 18th. An analysis by Lucas WhiteField Hixson of the high resolution photos of the power plant provide that the plutonium MOX fuel was ejected into the atmosphere during the explosion.”

Addiction to Technology Hansadutta das

For every technological advantage there is also a disadvantage, and that disadvantage obliges us to create another technological program to counteract it, which creates still another disadvantage, which obliges us to create another technological program. We are caught up in a chain of programs to counteract the technological disadvantages. ... GUEST: Technology makes life easier. HANSADUTTA: When we do away with old age, disease and death, then life will be "easier." Life is a struggle to counteract birth, old age, disease and death. With all the advancement of technology, these problems still exist, and we are still struggling to counteract them in different ways. Technology has made life more complicated. more

Scientists have not given us longer lives

excerpt from Life Comes from Life

PRABHUPADA: Scientists have helped to minimize the duration of life! Formerly men lived one hundred years; now they seldom live more than sixty or seventy years. And the scientists have discovered atomic energy; now they can kill millions of men. So they have helped only in dying. They have not helped in living, and still they dare to declare that they will create.

DR. SINGH: But now we have airplanes and—

PRABHUPADA: The scientists cannot stop death, they cannot stop birth, they cannot stop disease, and they cannot stop old age. So what have they done? Formerly people used to become old, and nowadays they are becoming old. Formerly people used to become diseased, and now they are becoming diseased. Now there is more medicine—and more disease. So what have they accomplished? Scientists have not helped improve the order of the world.
