Dear Prabhus, Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories
to Srila Prabhupada!
I just now created an MKV video file containing one of Srila Prabhupada's
MP3 lectures. It contains nothing but the completely unchanged MP3 file, and
a plain black screen as the video portion. The size of the file is only 23%
larger than the original MP3 file! I also created an SRT subtitle file to go
along with it. Each subtitle is 6 lines long, which means that it won't work
with all media players, but it works perfectly with VLC media player!
The
VLC player can be easily set so that the six lines almost fill the entire
screen and are centered both horizontally and vertically! Perfect!
MKV files are simply containers, and the subtitles will work either inside
or outside of the MKV container. I prefer to keep them outside, because,
since they are just ordinary text files, they can then be edited with
Notepad or any other text editor. Not only can mistakes in the wording be
corrected, but timing errors can also be corrected!
This means that we could put all of Srila Prabhupada's
lectures/conversations on one Blu-ray disk, all converted to MKV video
files, along with a VLC media player installer. The accompanying subtitles
could even be in several different languages!
By the way, VLC media player is free, and is extremely popular all over the
world.
As soon as I get a chance, I'm going to try uploading the picture-less video
to YouTube (It's only about 2 minutes long), and see if I can get it to work
with the subtitles.
Stay tuned! :-)
Your servant, Pratyatosa Dasa
