500 tape recordings of Srila Prabhupada yet to be copied to digital media after 44 years!

His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Founder-Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, always insisted that when he was speaking that it be recorded. That is for our benefit. His vision was that he was speaking to a few people only but through the tape recordings in the future thousands more would have the opportunity to hear him.

Unfortunately more than 500 of these tapes recorded by Srila Prabhupada have been locked up by the Bhaktivedanta Archives and they refuse to let anyone hear the transcendental words of Srila Prabhupada recorded on them. For more than ten years many devotees have been trying to get access to these recordings, but we have always been refused.

Srila Prabhuapda made these recordings so, we, his followers in the future, can hear from him. That the archives are still digitizing tapes that could have been recorded as early as 1966, 44 years ago, shows that they do not understand the value and importance of the recorded words of Srila Prabhuapda, nor are they very serious about preserving them. Magnetic tape does not last so long. Neglecting the tapes like this for 44 years means in the best case the audio quality will be very much degraded and in the worst case they may not even be able to play these tapes. The only way Srila Prabhuapda's teachings can be preserved and passed on to the future generations is if they are copied to stable digital medium NOW and DISTRIBUTED WIDELY.

We have started a petition to request both the ISKCON GBC and the Bhaktivedanta Archives to release these more than 500 recordings of Srila Prabhupada.
